Types of assignments

Today there are many academic assignments in schools, universities and other educational institutions. And each task has its own distinctive features . Each of them aims at improving student’s or pupil’s skills.

So let’s learn about the various types of assignments and  their special features.

It may be one of many types of essays (descriptive, argumentative, convincing, research, narrative, etc.), various reviews (for example books / literature and other sources), bibliographies, laboratory works, various experiments, project reports, and many others.

And of course, each of them has its own peculiarities, structure and purpose. So, let’s know what’s what.

  • Research essay

It’s main purpose is to answer the specific problem by studying it, finding facts and forming  evidence and arguments. The structure is standard – introduction, main part and conclusion.

  • Report

The main task of the report is to form a general picture of a particular situation or object, identify it’s strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons, if any, and to form conclusions. Such work must have headlines with numbers, contents and summary.

  • Review

Most often reviews are aimed at researching literature. And the main task is to determine the main ideas of the chosen work, understanding its author’s thinking and the synthesis of your own critical thinking about this work.

  • Laboratory work

Laboratory work is always practice. Usually a particular object or phenomenon have to be selected, which should be investigated due to the different experiments. In this work  you need to describe your actions in detail and draw conclusions.

  • Bibliography

The main purpose of this task is to create a specific list of recommendations. You need to find several articles on a specific topic, analyze them and determine their relevance to the chosen topic as well as their benefit for potential readers. You must place the found articles in alphabetical order, and also write the final paragraph, which should contain your critical evaluation of the selected articles.
